CAUSEWAY CALL Tuesday, 12 February 2008 |

All good things must come to an end. The AGM is approaching and the light is now visible at the end of the CUMSA tunnel for all but one of the Terrific Ten - your darling Pub. Sec still has Causeway to work on.

It's progressing along nicely, (very nicely in fact, but you will hear more at the AGM...) and articles are starting to come in but the whispers in the wind tell me that there would be more but a few of you are still hesitant about what you ought to contribute, so I thought I'd try and give you a better idea.

Our plan for Causeway this year is to be a manifestation of society life - something that embodies the spirit of all the members: their creativity, interests, activities and achievements.

I'm not specifically looking for a long essay on what your opinions on the development of Singaporean culture (though I would be very happy if someone were to write about something like that... *wink/nudge/hint*) but anything that has been a part of your life in Cambridge - groups you've been a part of, new experiences, likes/dislikes about anything, holidays, the beauty of your favourite sport, etc.

But it doesn't all have to be about Cambridge - its about our members contributions too - write about anything that has caught your eye and you think others might want to know about, that hot new tv show everyone's talking about (xoxo), a new band or artist you've discovered, some new discovery that you're really interested in - fact is, if you've got a passion for something - someone else probably will too and maybe they just don't know it yet.

Doesn't even have to be in writing - if your interest is photography and you've had a chance to capture some of the gorgeous scenes we are privvy to in Cambridge then send them in; if you've written a poem, or a short story, or a comedy sketch or even a play and would like to share it with others - just click send. Length is not an issue, we can always put in an excerpt and give a link for others to read more if they liked what they read!

And of course, if you've thought of something fab that I haven't mentioned just e-mail me an idea and I'll let you know if it's suitable - creativity is a wonderful gift.

We want this to be something that you will really enjoy reading and keeping so I hope this sparks a few of you off - the deadline is not till the end of term - but remember, hesitation is procrastination...

"Absolutely fantastic - without a doubt the best ball CUMSA have ever hosted."

"I just didn't want to leave, it was so good!"

"I can't believe Jeremy isn't allowed to extend his term in office! :("

Expect to hear exclamations of a similar nature as you walk back from the University Arms Hotel having been wined, dined and suitably entertained. Tickets are sold out, performers are preparing their acts, Koh Sr. is practising his Hokkien - rumour has it that even MM. Lee is on the waiting list. Foolish, I say - because patience is only a virtue if there's a chance you're going to get what you're waiting for...

Love the beautiful game? Too unfit to join us on Parkers' Piece for a d(r)ibble or f(r)izzle?

The Manchester derby is upon us for the first time in 2008 - and Selwyn College hosts our graduates (and one Ronaldo-ogling Sports Sec) to have a small get-together to watch the game. But word on the street is that it's not just for grads - all are welcome, young AND old, so if you'd like to join them - do email Helmi at helmi2901@gmail.com so he can arrange refreshments to throw around when City earn a well-deserved victory.

Meng-predictor:

Jokes aside, United were awful against Spurs last weekend, were lucky to snatch a last-minute draw and desperately need three points to keep pace with Arsenal tomorrow. Fortunately for them City have been beyond dire of late and the lucky breaks that somehow helped them to a blistering start to the season have predictably dissipated. Nevertheless it would be foolish to forget how important a match this is for both sets of fans and passion just might help them claw one back.

2-1 to United

an auspicious beginning Thursday, 7 February 2008 |

A fortune cookie today told me "A MISTAKE WILL SOON BE PUT RIGHT"
and now as i look at the clock and consider my impending doom (no work done for tomorrow's supervision),
i feel a surge of warm chinese new year fuzziness inside me.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!

2008 Tuesday, 1 January 2008 |

The first day of every year is always an exciting time - the prospect of new experiences, new friends and new relationships is enough in itself - but what could be more exciting than knowing that the Annual Ball is now less than two months away?

There will be fun times, so what better way to let your hair down than to tie it up in a flashy fedora, available at only $3.49 from Spotlight at Plaza Singapura?

Ask anyone who's watched the Masquerade Ball episode of Gossip Girl and they will tell you that there's nothing like a little intrigue to spice up a night - maybe a mysterious mask might add a little magic? ($2 from Daiso, Plaza Singapura)

Hopefully none of you have had the misfortune to watch ol' Sammy L. J in his career-defining/defeating role in Snakes on a Plane, but how about a feathery boa to add a little edge to your look? ($6.49 per metre from Spotlight, Plaza Singapura)

More to come, but do send any tips on genius bits and pieces you've found to publicity@cumsa.org and we'll be sure to let everyone know!

and on to better things... Thursday, 25 October 2007 |

After the disappointment of the Oxbridge Games, (reports on which are flooding in and will be with you soon) we, the Association of Singapore and Malaysia in the University of Cambridge (ASMUC), are now looking to the greener pastures and happier times awaiting us in the next few weeks - starting with our annual Asian Food Festival!

It's going to be delicious and frankly you would be a fool to miss out - sign up at www.cumsa.org and prepare to be gastronomically pampered.
